In the Ecuadorian Andes, many pregnancies go unmonitored simply because the nearest clinic is hours away. So we placed prenatal care inside something Kichwa women already wear close to them: the chumpi, the belt traditionally used to protect the womb. A piece of traditional dress becomes a way to read the health of a pregnancy at a glance.
